AREA ‘WONT’ BE EJECTED FROM GAELTACHT
The Kerryman  (Dingle in the News)
27/10/2005
Minister Eamon O Cuiv has said that Dingle will never be ejected from the Gaeltacht unless the community decides to leave. He said that the area’s Gaeltacht status was not under threat even though many local people oppose the government’s decision to change the name of Dingle to An Daingean. “I was asked on radio na Gaeltachta, that if the people wanted to keep the name Dingle, within the current law, how could I reinstate the name Dingle. I said I’d have to get legal advice but the simple way of keeping the name was to leave the Gaeltacht and the order wouldn’t apply anymore,” he said. “It wasn’t a threat to anyone –just a statement of fact…”
