I WILL IGNORE DINGLE VOTE RESULT - O’CUIV
The Kerryman  (Dingle in the News)
27/10/2005

THE GOVERNMENT will ignore the results of Kerry County Council’s proposed vote on the change of Dingle’s official name to An Daingean, according to the Minister for Community Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Eamon O Cuiv.

The minister claimed that he could not reverse the change due to legal advice he had obtained from the Attorney General. “I couldn’t accept it because the legal advice from the Attorneys General’s office is that the Languages Act of 2003 would preclude me from putting in, in an official form, the English form of the name. The legal advice is very clear that once you make a placenames order it is not possible to reverse it,” he said…
